Yoga Therapy
Yoga Therapy empowers and supports individuals to manage their own health using the principles of Yoga and applying a range of Yoga practices developed within a professional therapeutic relationship. ~ Australasian Association of Yoga Therapists

Yoga therapy focuses on a holistic & integrative approach to your wellbeing, empowering you as an individual to manage your own path to healing and improved health & wellness. It can be used to treat existing mental and physical issues, but also as a self-care strategy for prevention and maintenance. Using the tools and practices of Yoga, Pilates and Ayurveda, we work together to create a program for long term health.

Yoga Therapy sessions are conducted one-on-one in a clinical setting, involving assessment of your condition or goals, physical capabilities and lifestyle. Through collaborative work we will progress towards creating a program to help you achieve long term improved health, giving you the confidence & tools to be in the drivers seat as you work towards your desired goal.

The tools and practices used in yoga therapy may include:

  • asana (postures)
  • pranayama (breath awareness & techniques)
  • guided meditation
  • relaxation
  • mindfulness techniques
  • mudra (gestures)
  • dietary and lifestyle advice
  • counselling and self-development guidance.

Benefits of Yoga Therapy

  • Reduce stress and improve quality of life
  • Improve quality of sleep and promote relaxation
  • Promote healthy food habits and lifestyle choices
  • Injury rehabilitation and condition support
  • Increase quality of breath and ease of movement
  • Improve strength and flexibility
  • Improve overall well being

How is Yoga Therapy different than a regular or private yoga class?
Yoga therapy practice can resemble physical therapy, rehabilitative therapy and/or psychotherapy. Unlike a standard yoga class, yoga therapy sessions are typically conducted one-on-one and can provide an adjunct therapy to complement other forms of treatment, or it can be used to directly treat a specific issue. Part of the yoga therapy process is to help the individual feel in control of their progress to encourage long term health & wellness.

The practice of yoga therapy takes into account your individual experiences, situation, emotional attachment, history and ever changing circumstances. There is no “one method fits all” approach. Yoga Therapy treats the person, not the symptoms.

What you can expect from a Yoga Therapy session

  • Identify health concerns or specific health goals
  • Assess lifestyle and physical capability
  • Discuss reasons for seeking therapy
  • Work together to create a course of treatment /therapy/program

You will walk away with a holistic program designed specifically for your needs.

Yoga Therapy for Pregnancy & Motherhood
https://www.yogawithandy.com/pregnancybirthandbeyond

The journey through pregnancy, childbirth and into motherhood is not without it’s challenges, both on a physical, mental and emotional level. As a trained Yoga Therapist and specialist in Pre & Postnatal yoga, I can work with you during your pregnancy journey, in preparation for childbirth, the early postpartum period and through the various stages of motherhood.

Every mother’s journey is different, as is her healing. Even if your circumstances were identical to that of another, your experience, reaction and effects may be vastly different. For this reason yoga therapy engages a holistic approach, treating you as the individual, the whole person, rather than symptoms or expectations.

Yoga therapy sessions offer you the opportunity to create a program designed to suit your individual needs, with the flexibility to adapt as your needs change. The tools of yoga can be used to support and give you confidence as you approach childbirth, to help ease the physical, mental & emotional challenges you may face as a new mum and give you strategies to assist long term.

Yoga Therapy can assist mothers & mothers-to-be with:

  • High risk pregnancy & postpartum complications
  • Pre and postnatal care
  • Antenatal and postnatal anxiety and depression
  • Transitioning into motherhood
  • Creating balance as a busy mother
  • Dealing with changes in your body pre & post birth
  • Assisting with your fertility journey
  • Adapting your previous yoga practice to suit your changing needs

Yoga Therapy sessions can be used to support you throughout your journey - from pregnancy to childbirth and beyond. Sessions can also be used to support bonding with your baby and their ongoing development. Babies & children are welcome to attend your Yoga Therapy session.
